This was the 11th ultra-marathon race and the theme for this year's event was "Beyond MND, reaching final victory". The message we tried to deliver was that despite extreme pain and agony, the blossom of a meaningful life is till within reach through sheer will and persistence. Charity fund-raising and donations were held along with the race to support a program by the Taiwan Motor Neuron Disease Association.
This year's events included: 24-hour international race, 12-hour domestic race, 1-hour race for faculty and students, students' half marathon relay, and 2-hour night owls relay for student also-runners. There were also experience races for Soochow university alumni, and faculty and students from the Taipei Japanese School. To cheer for the ultra-runners, marathon concerts were held by Soochow University's Music Department, student clubs, student dorms, as well as the dancing club from our neighboring FuLin Community Development Association. Overall, a total of 434 runners and 755 volunteers participated in this ultra-marathon race.
大會以創造國際唯一金牌賽事為目標，特邀請男子三巨頭──亞洲紀錄保持者日本關家良一、美國超馬天王 Scott Jurek 、惡水超馬賽冠軍巴西 Valmir Nunes 同場較勁。
Results from 2011: in 24-hour race, 13 participants completed more than 200 km; among them, seven set their best personal records. With their excellent performances, three runners: Ryoichi Sekiya, Mami Kudo, and Emmanuel Fontaine qualified our event for the international silver medal standard.
今年成績結果：24小時賽前13名選手達200公里，7人締造個人最佳成績，其中關家良一、工藤真實、 Emmanuel Fontaine 等三名選手成績達國際級標準，達到國際銀牌賽事目標。
An organized medical research regarding ultrarunning has been conducted during the race. Dr. Kao Wei-fong, from Yang-Ming University and Veteran General Hospital, lead the medical team to do in depth research, so as to help the ultrarunners to have better performance and prevent the sport injuries or related illnesses. The wireless HRV, invented by Dr. Kuo, Bo-chau of Yang-ming University, has been experimented during the race, the equipments fully record the participants’ heart beat data and motion data during the race.
Japanese runner Ms. Mami Kudo once again broke the world record in women's 24-hour race with her result of 255.303 km, adding a most glamorous chapter in this year's Soochow International Ultra-marathon.
